Dispatch From The Other Side
I’m uploading a couple of extra short stories this week, so here’s another.
Dispatch From The Other Side originally appeared in The Golden Door edited by Jamie Ferguson. My story involves a mysterious and infamous postcard and a young protagonist who lost his family crossing the southern border when he was just a baby. There’s a slight science fiction element to it.
The cover was interesting to create. I wanted a postcard that looked like its been around awhile. Found it. And the postcard was blank enough I could add some text. But the background needed more than just color so I found an image of a table surface. I don’t often use two images on a cover, but will if it works, and this one did. I’m happy with how this one turned out.
Also, a curious note. Since writing this story, I’ve written another story involving mysterious postcards, and that didn’t occur to me while writing the second one. Obviously my brain finds postcards fascinating and story fodder.
